Pepper and Jack did not know that about each other. Pepper on the other hand is heiress to the national-soon-to-be-international franchise Big League Burger. Jack’s family owns a small but very popular family-ran deli in downtown Manhattan. While Jack is a native New Yorker, Pepper is a transplant from Tennessee. Meet our Gen Z’ers – Pepper Evans and Jack Campbell, high school students in one of the premiere private schools in Manhattan. When they were born, the internet already existed, hence Gen Z became the first generation to be very comfortable in the online world especially social media. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars, and I really hope that the author will write some more books, because this one was great. And guess what, it seems that Gen Z is the generation that has gotten it down pat! Demographers had pinned their birth years as beginning the mid-1990s (as in 1995) which separated them from Millennials (born 1980 – 1994). And the plot is just so ridiculous and serious at once, revolving around a grilled cheese, but it’s so much more. The characters are hilarious and fun to read, constantly cracking jokes and playing around. If you like romance and realistic fiction books, then I think this book is for you. I highly recommend this book to many readers. The whole Twitter spat they have is filled with memes and comedy, keeping everything playful. Pepper and Jack are both very lovable and relatable characters, and they’re very cheery and light, and fun to read. I really like that we get to see both points of view between Jack and Pepper, and that helps with understanding their actions. One of the best parts of this book is the engaging format. Jack’s family runs a deli that features a famous Grilled Cheese sandwich, Grandma’s Special, but Big League Burger steals it, down to the ingredients. His identical twin, Ethan is the beloved “golden twin” according to Jack. Jack can’t escape the feeling that he isn’t enough. Senior year for her is hectic and crazy, with the swim team, college, the intense curriculum, and now, trying to run a corporate Twitter account for Big League Burger. Pepper is finally finding stable footing at her elite private school she moved to Freshman year, Stone Hall. Her dad is back ‘home’ in Nashville, and her older sister at UPenn. Pepper is a girl from Nashville who is living in New York with her mom, who runs the massive fast food chain, Big League Burger. When Pepper’s Big League Burger steals Jack’s family grilled cheese recipe, they begin their spat, all while bonding in real life, commiserating about their crazy lives together. The plot follows Pepper and Jack, who go to school together and also fight each other using corporate accounts on Twitter.
